PAINTER

Edward Alamilla also known as Papo was born in San Pedro.  His family were originally fisherman and he spent a lot of his youth on the stunning aqua waters that surround Ambergris Caye. At a young age he developed a passion for art.

He is self taught and is a master of realism capturing the beauty of the Caribbean Sea, cloud formations, sun rises like no other in Belize.  His skill also extends to underwater scenes, wildlife,  still life, portraits, landscape and  impressionism

His accomplishments include many art exhibitions in the country and awards.

When Papo was young the population of San Pedro was about 1500.  All the streets were sand and everyone walked barefoot.  There were only 3 or 4 vehicles on the island.  Many of his paintings record the history of the island as do his paintings of Belize City. His work is sold not only to  Belizeans but collectors globally.

Papo is an introvert and prefers not to be in the lime light avoiding interviews and art collectors while at the same time being very grateful for the acknowledgement and support he has received.  As  the population of the island grew he left for a quieter life on the mainland.  His studio is very simple.  He starts working on a canvas with a pencil in hand.  Most of his work is done in acrylic but he also works with oils.

He has inspired and taught many artists who have been fortunate enough to spend time with him in his studio. He has shared many techniques and skills with them which have been the foundation of their art careers. These artists include Moro, Rozalez ,Vasquez., Zac, Landero and Gomez.

The Alamillas are are a large family and Papo has three daughters and four  grandchildren who live on the island.  We consider him to be one of the treasures of San Pedro.
